White Oils

White Oils

White oils are highly refined, colorless, and odorless mineral oils derived from petroleum through extensive hydrotreatment and filtration processes. In masterbatch technology, they serve as critical processing aids and carrier media that enhance the dispersion and incorporation of pigments, additives, and functional compounds into polymer matrices. White oils are most widely used in polyolefin-based masterbatches (PE, PP), where their chemical inertness ensures no interference with catalyst residues or stabilizer packages. Use in PVC, rubber, and EVA systems is also established.

In masterbatch production, white oils act primarily as:
  • Dispersing agents – improving the wetting and homogeneous distribution of pigment particles within the carrier resin
  • Lubricants – reducing internal friction during compounding, lowering melt viscosity, and easing extrusion and pelletizing operations
  • Compatibilizers – bridging the interface between polar additives and nonpolar polymer hosts
