HPP

(Homopolymer Polypropylene) is the purest and most widely produced form of polypropylene, consisting entirely of propylene monomer units arranged in a highly regular structure. This molecular regularity delivers high crystallinity, resulting in excellent stiffness, hardness, heat resistance, and chemical resistance — making HPP the benchmark grade against which other PP variants are measured. Its combination of rigidity, surface quality, and processability across injection molding, extrusion, and film production makes HPP one of the most versatile and cost- effective engineering polymers available.

Key Applications

Rigid packaging dominates HPP consumption — thin-wall containers, cups, lids, closures, and caps exploit its stiffness, clarity in oriented form, and excellent organoleptic properties (no taste or odor transfer), making it preferred for food contact applications including yogurt pots, margarine tubs, and beverage caps.

Core layer in BOPP film (Biaxially Oriented PP) is a major application — HPP stretched in both directions produces crystal-clear, stiff, printable films widely used in snack packaging, labeling, and overwrapping. Oriented HPP film delivers outstanding clarity and stiffness unmatched by polyethylene alternatives.

Injection molded components across automotive, appliance, and consumer goods industries utilize HPP’s rigidity and dimensional stability — battery cases, washing machine drums, dishwasher components, and storage systems all rely on its heat resistance.

Fibers and nonwovens represent a significant application — HPP’s high melting point and chemical resistance make it ideal for woven bags, ropes, geotextiles, and hygiene nonwovens including medical gowns and agricultural covers.

Medical and laboratory applications exploit HPP’s autoclavability and chemical inertness — syringes, specimen containers, laboratory consumables, and surgical instrument trays withstand steam sterilization without deformation.

Together with superior properties HPP also has some limitation in use (low temperature and some limitations in flexible packaging). To solve these limits PP copolymers are used.
